Although Austen only completed 11 chapters of Sanditon, a 28-episode multiplatform series has fleshed out the story and a full-length feature is currently in development.
An eight-part mini-series for ITV (UK), adapted by Andrew Davies, begins filming in March 2019. Release dates on ITV and Masterpiece are anticipated for 2020. Watch this space for more information as details become available. Davies is well-known to Janeites for his adaptation of Pride and Prejudice (1995) with Colin Firth and Jennifer Ehle. He also has adapted versions of Emma, Northanger Abbey and Sense and Sensibility.

Production on the first feature adaptation of Austen’s unfinished novel Sanditon was announced in 2015. Director Jim O’Hanlon previously directed the 2009 mini series version of Emma and screenwriter Simon Reade previously adapted Pride and Prejudice for the stage. However, this appears to no longer be in development, since the announcement of the Andrew Davies-penned version for ITV.
