Join us for Spring Cleaning at Chawton on Saturday, June 2, from 9 a.m.–3 p.m. at the UCLA Faculty Center. Coffee and continental breakfast begin at 9 a.m. with the program starting at 10 a.m. Registration is open now.

The program will include a talk by Jan Fahey on “Clean and Decent: A History of Bathing to Jane Austen’s Time and Beyond” and a discussion by Terry Ryan on “Jane Austen’s Domestic Economy: Housekeeping and Home Remedies in Regency Times.” Terry also will lead attendees in a workshop during which you can mix up a batch of Charles Austen’s Complexion Lotion (milk of roses) to take home.

Cost for JASNA members is $65. Nonmembers are welcome to join us at a fee of $80 (or join JASNA now to receive your discount!). Students pay $45.

When you register you’ll have a choice of three luncheon entrees: grilled chicken, salmon or Moroccan-spiced vegetable tagine. Continental breakfast and a luncheon salad and dessert are also included in the attendance cost

We will meet in the UCLA Faculty Center’s Sequoia Room.

Parking is $8 at the pay stations located on the south side of Lot P2, nearest the Faculty Center, or from the information kiosk. Your license plate number is required when you use the pay stations. Disabled parking is available in Lot A/back of Murphy Hall but proof of parking payment must be displayed on the dash from the P2 pay station or information kiosk. If you decide to get help from the parking information kiosk, it is best to go to the kiosk on Westwood Boulevard, north of Le Conte (past Ronald Reagan Medical Center), as the information kiosk near the Faculty Center is likely to be closed on Saturday.

More information and maps for UCLA parking are available on the university’s website.
