Join us for Taking Jane Austen to School, the JASNA Southwest Winter Meeting, on Dec. 2 at Luminarias restaurant, 3500 W. Ramona Boulevard, Los Angeles 91754.

The event will feature a talk by Regulus Allen on “From Hampshire to Hollywood: On Teaching Jane Austen.” Allen is an associate professor at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, where she teaches Restoration and Eighteenth Century British Literature, British Romanticism and African-American Literature.

Beth Parker, a graduate student at the Claremont School of Theology, will present “WWJD: Who Would Jane Date?”, an exploration of how she uses Austen’s wisdom in her theological research, her sermons and her online dating experiences, in which she categorizes the men she meets by the male characters in Austen’s novels.

The event begins with continental breakfast and a white elephant sale at 9 a.m., with the program beginning at 10 a.m. A Mexican buffet lunch will be served. Cost to attend the event, which concludes at 3 p.m., is $65. Registration closes on Nov. 20 or when we reach 100 attendees, whichever comes first. New board members for 2018-19 also will be elected.
